Stephanie Louise Rice is an Australian swimmer was born on 17th June 1988 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Her father is Warren Rice and mother is Raelene Clark. Rice attended Clayfield College in her high school years in Brisbane, Queensland. She was romantically linked with fellow Australian swimmer and 50m freestyle world-record-holder Eamon Sullivan.
At just 17 years old Stephanie Rice won gold in the 200 and 400 Individual Medley at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games. She defeated Olympians Brooke Hanson and Lara Carroll. She won two bronze medals in the 200m and 400m IM at the 2007 Melbourne World Championships. She continued her performance and in the mean time she set her personal best timing in 400m IM at an 2007 Italian meet. Rice set a new Australian and Commonwealth record at the 2007 Japanese Open Championships. At the 2008 Australian Olympic trials, Rice broke the world record in the 400m individual medley but American Katie Hoff regained the record on the same event form Rice. Rice again set a world record in 200m IM that was previously done by Wu Yanyan of China.
Rice won her first-ever Olympic medal in the 400m individual medley at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. In the process she reclaimed the world record from Hoff. In Beijing, Rice won three gold medals in the 200m and 400m IM and in the 4 x 200m freestyle relay. She won these three gold medals with world record timing each. In 2008 she was Telstra Australian Swimmer of the Year.
